Comment:From the age of thirteen Edvard was allowed to accompany his father, the military doctor Christian Munch, to the military camps at Gardermoen and Helgelandsmoen. The atmosphere inside as well as outside the camps was strange and fascinating for young Edvard, with soldiers, horse traders, itinerate knife sharpeners, beggars and even travelling jugglers. In this sketchbook he has depicted many sides of life at Gerdermoen in summer 1880.
