Comment:
TheMunch family lived at Fossveien 7 from 1877 until 1882. Young Edvard’s record of how the room looked is as sober as the furnishings. The colours are subdued, the rules of perspective are followed to the letter, and the shadows thoughtfully placed. The watercolour is kept in a simple old frame, probably dating from Munch’s childhood. The family were evidently so pleased with it that they thought it worthy of a place on the wall. (MB)
