From Hankø to Fredrikstad

1888 (certain)
Pencil
Wove paper. 237 × 157 × 0,18 mm (h × b × t)
Comment:
The inscription at the bottom of the drawing, which names the person on the right as the painter Hansteen, does not correlate with Munch’s letter to his aunt Karen of 6.7.1888. Here he writes that Hansteen had become ill on a prior sailing trip, and had therefore not joined them on an outing from Hankø to Fredrikstad by steamboat: "I took a little jaunt the day before yesterday to Fredrikstad together with the painters Collet and Niels Gude. We travelled with a little steamboat that belonged to the latter." (N 735)
