Comment:
Lithographs can be executed by drawing directly on the stone, or by drawing on a sheet of paper first and then transferring it to the stone. When it comes to this type of transfer lithograph the original drawing is registered as a drawing even though it is "identical" with the printed lithograph. In certain cases Munch has used impressions from more than one stone for the final print, and if it is a transfer lithograph, there will be multiple original drawings. In that case, one drawing will as a rule be the main drawing, with an easily recognisable motif, while the other will have a more complementary function and may appear rather unintelligible as a drawing. That is the case with this drawing, which, together with T 2769 makes up the motif "Woman with Fringe", printed as a lithograph (Woll G 579).
