Comment:Copying the works of recognised artists has always been a basic exercise in art education. Although today's art schools and academies place less emphasis on this skill, in Munch's time it was still considered a prerequisite for mastering the skills of composition, drawing, and the use of colour. However, the established artists in Krisitania advised Munch and his young colleagues not to attend academies, and this copy of a work by one of Edvard's relatives, Carl Fredrik Diriks, is one of only a few direct copies by Munch.
