Comment:
A connection to "The Pretenders" is uncertain when it comes to this drawing, since the landing of the Birkebeinere is not directly represented in the play. In the exhibition "Edvard Munch and Henrik Ibsen" (1975), however, it was linked to a mention of this event in the fourth act: "To be sure it is the Birkebeinere; King Haakon is there; the entire fleet is landing at the docks; but he went ashore with his best men out at Egebergstøen."
