A connection to Peer Gynt is uncertain in this case. The four other drawings in this sketchbook are all depictions of the scuffle between Munch and Ludvig Karsten in Åsgårdstrand, so this drawing does not appear in a context that would make it natural to interpret it as a Peer Gynt motif. At the same time, it is clear that it does not fit in with the fight in Åsgårdstrand. And since the boy in the doorway has obvious similarities with other depictions of the young Peer, and the situation itself is reminiscent of Peer’s arrival at Hæggstad Farm, we have chosen a title that associates it with this scene.
