Comment:
It was mainly during the winter months that Edvard was plagued with illness. During the summer he was able to take his drawing equipment and embark on long nature walks in Nordmarka. From the age of thirteen he was allowed to accompany his father, a military doctor, to the camps in the Østland area. Edvard documented life at the Gardermoen camp in greatest detail, but there are also a number of drawings of the camp at Helgelandsmoen. On the way to the latter he spent the night of 11 July 1879 at the Sundvolden hotel, which he records in his sketchbook. (MB)
