Comment:
The dating of this card must be 1934 at the latest, since Thorolf Holmboe died in March 1935. Munch has several hectographs where he is depicted with one or two of his dogs, among others one from 1924 with a Christmas tree and two dogs, which he used as a New Year’s greeting to his friend Gustav Schiefler in Hamburg. In it he looks significantly younger, so the dating of this card is set at 1930-34. It is the only self-portrait with three dogs that we know of.
