View of Grünerløkka at Night
1883–1885 (
plausible)
Watercolour, pencil
Wove paper. 480 × 323 × 0,2 mm (h × b × t)
Comment:
Like the watercolour in the same sketchbook, T 123-1, there is an inscription on the reverse side citing information from Munch’s sister, Inger Munch, indicating that the watercolour is from Grünerløkka and executed in 1885. Once again, it is difficult to reconcile the view in the drawing with what might be visible from Schous plass 1. On the other hand, the watercolour might correspond with the view toward the courtyard from Fossveien 9. The family lived at this address from 1883 to 1885.
