Comment:In the 1883 census, Munch registered himself as "genre painter". While such motifs were practically absent from his paintings during the early 1880s, they are found in abundace in his drawings. An this sketchbook from 1882 is a good example of that. Here we find the daily life of ordinary people, in work and off work, in joy and in sorrow, presented in a quick and vigorous, often quite exaggerated style.
