Comment:
The charcoal drawing "The Voice" belongs to the cycle of motifs executed in numerous drawings, two paintings and graphic versions, as well as intaglio prints, lithographs and woodcuts. The motif originates from his first erotic experience with the slightly older married woman whom he often calls "Mrs Heiberg" in his writings, but in reality was Andrea Fredrikke Emilie (Milly) Thaulow, married to Frits Thaulow’s brother, Carl Thaulow, a doctor and Captain in the Marines.
